Artist’s Statement
I am a self taught artist and photographer. I have always loved to draw and compose images. I fell in love with stipple while completing an art assignment in middle school. It was a long, off again, on again romance blossoming some 30 years later, turning into a full blown romantic entanglement some 10 years ago.
People see what I do and question my sanity. Yes, paint or pencils would be faster but speed is not the point. Stippling is meditative for me and takes me away from the hectic world we live in. Hours sail by and the end results are very rewarding. I have no social or political statements to make with my work and I’m not trying to evoke specific responses from my audience. I simply have fun doing what I do and if it makes somebody smile, I’m okay with that.
I get my inspiration from many things. I enjoy the worlds of Steampunk and Fantasy and the fanciful ‘what-ifs’ that they inspire. I enjoy the details of architecture, the intricacies of mechanical objects and nature and classic objects of the past.
I use Koh-i-noor Rapidiograph pens for all my work. They are consistent, hold a point and are fairly reliable. For most of my work I use a 1/.50mm or 0/.35mm pen and depending on the detail needed, I have been known to go as small as a 3×0/.25mm pen. I work mostly on Strathmore Bristol board. For my white ink projects I use Strathmore Artagain black paper.
I am so lucky to love the art I do.
